Hello!

A few days ago I was wondering what readers prefer, an open ending or the standard happy end? Even a bad ending or no ending at all could be possibilities! I decided to create a poll about this, and check out what the 'general reading public' of critizine prefers. Do we love happy endings, or do we like the more unconventional endings of stories? Maybe we like to create our own endings or perhaps we continue making up our own stories after an open ending!

What do you prefer and why? Or does it depend on the book you're reading, the writer or the story?

What's in your view the difference between an open ending and no ending actually? Just wondering ;)

Lately I've been appreciating open endings more and more, sometimes you can get so fed up with a forced happy ending, especially if that's paired with forced romance in stories xD. I do like happy endings sometimes, but at the moment I'm more into open endings, but... too open is also frustrating :P

I don't know if any of you are familiar with books from Preston & Child? Those usually end up in some bizarre open ending, which just leaves you with nothing. That can be quite frustrating, though it is fortunately often not too cliché.

So in short: more of an open ending for me, unless it's toooooo open :P

with no ending at all, I mean that the story suddenly stops without any warning. I came across a few books which used that. It's so annoying when you just got into a story!

I prefer open and surprising endings... I totally agree with Sara that happy endings are getting boring. ;)

Happy endings are boring of course, but i prefer any ending or no ending over open endings... but it depends on the genre of books you read and how open the ending is... if it just doesn't mention what happens next to a person but the story itself is closed, it could also be rated an open ending (James Bond-esque).
