Sometimes when buying a book there's more psychology around than you'd think. Is it really the book itself that gets your interest, or is it secretly just the cover or the fact the book is written by a certain author?
Did you ever buy a book simply for it's title or cover?

I've bought books because I liked the author, I've read the blurb and thought it would be interesting, or because it was in a series I was reading. I don't remember ever buying one only for the title or the cover, but the title has made me read the blurb, so the title is important. The cover, though, can be deceiving, so I've never bought a book because of that.

other: because of a friend's recommendation! Apart from that I usually buy books because of the author or because I'm just really into the topic.

because they're obligatory literature for my studies?

That will be another reason for me pretty soon. :D

I didn't even think of this one, and it's probably one of the main reasons I buy books. Duh!

In fact, friends' recommendation is tha main reason for me to buy a book. for instance, due to Nike's recommendation, I bought the Achemist . i'd say it's quite fantastic. I will keep it as my favorite book. ;)

I feel honoured, but... it was Arianne's recommendation, haha :P, so credits go to Arianne for this one ;). Nice to hear you bought a book via a recommendation on this site though ;)

I've bought my books often because of the blurb, sometimes indirectly via the title/cover combination, or for the athor/series. In the case of the Ghost Writer, I bought it because of the film; I hoped to get some more explanation through reading the book.

haha, i made a mistake. thanks both of ARIANNE and NIKE.
I watched the film ghost writer too. but I don't understand somthing in the movie. so i will look for the book to find it out. for the same reason, i'm seeing the book--THE PRICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY. i find it more interesting than film. :D

@Wit: I liked the book of The Ghost Writer, it's quite good. Especially in the beginning part it's just like the film, but from halfway on it's getting a bit more detailed and some things will become quite clear, though some even remain unsolved in the book ;). I really like the ending of the book (which I will not tell now of course ;)), it was better and less rushed than the film's ending.
