A true teacher…what does it possibly means?? All of
you have been studying all of your lives, I’m sure you have in mind your own
definition what a true teacher is… .
A true teacher is someone who sheds lights on your way
to discover the world. In Malaysian common proverb “Guru Ibarat lilin yang
membakar dirinya sendiri” which means a teacher is like a burning candle,
sacrificing for beloved students. This is what teachers get in cards for
Teacher’s Day.
A true teacher teaches at his/her best in area of
expertise, concern of everything about fellow students, a good listener and a
friend, ultimate dream is to see students success and able to be independent
after school, college and university life. Someone who wishes students would be
even more successful than themselves, who would contribute to the society as a
whole.
As for me my best moment would be when I know my
students appreciate me and when they are able to be someone in their lives.
Although I’m trying the best to teach them my subject matter and instill
knowledge, in this case (English), the most important responsibility I have is
to spark ‘positive interests’ towards the language. Get them interested with
English Language.
I consider myself a good teacher if I can do this, as
I truly believe people would really go the distance if they have interest in
anything. So this is my art of teaching. If you are my student, and you like
English from my class, then I considered I have done my job well. Nevertheless,
this is a hope from a true teacher.
