National elections in the Netherlands

Hey everyone!

I heard from a few of my friends that even our national elections here in the Netherlands is a big news item abroad. Do you think our elections are that important, or is there just a lack of 'normal' news, besides all the natural disasters, famine and so on? Do you follow politics and if you do, what are your opinions?

I guess our elections will end in a fiasco anyway, I'll give our coalition (not sure which one it will be at the time I'm writing this) a year and then we'll be able to vote again. Is it just here that politics seem to be chaos? What's the case in your country?

Looking forward to hear your opinions! :whistling:

As long as there's no CDA in the lead, it may be a bit better, but I fear for some certain coalitions. With a tiny little bit of luck, a good coalition can be formed... but... we'll hear that the next few days.

Perhaps they think it's big news because they hope a good coalition can give some change to the Pan-European economic crisis? I think not, but you never know...

Anyway, waiting for the results...

Neither did my SP vote, well, they still are one of the bigger parties, but I fear for the coaltion.
Hopefully a Paars-Plus :P

Any idea when they want to change the stufi?

And... do you also feel Limburg is really trying very hard to become separated from the Netherlands? At least in my opinion they should be, if you see the bizarre results of the votes over there... :P

Haha.. well... they want to get rid of the stufi in order to get our deficit down to 3% GDP. Which is the European norm.. if it's higher we have to pay fees to the EU. And stufi is a lot of money... it's just easy to skip it. Though I doubt it will happen so soon. I guess there will be student revolts as in 1968 in France under De Gaulle.. I hope our politicians learned from what happened in the past, although I doubt it.

VVD and PVV are just bad for our position in the EU. Our image will go bad, and even if we will leave the EU (which I doubt) it will be bad for our economy. Every citizen gets €350 a year now thanks to the EU. If we leave we will lose that, our trade will go down since we have to pay extra levies etc. So I hope some people in this country will finally listen to reason.. and won't vote PVV again in the next elections (which will be in a few months... my prediction).

Limburg only votes PVV because they think they aren't heard in The Hague... they don't even know Wilder's points.. they just want to make a statement. Besides that they think foreign people form a threat.. (while there even aren't so many over there). People are just not well informed and vote with their heart instead of their mind. (Friesland has a nationalist party too.. the FNP.. they want to leave the Netherlands.. so I guess Limburg should calm down a bit.. )

^As far as I know from the people from Limburg, as well as quite an amount of other PVV voters, they voted also because of the pension age, which statement is also lost as soon as pvv got a lot of votes... So not only because of the so called threat of foreign people.
I really can't stand it that people can vote on such a party that actually don't have political valuable statements, they only give 3 hot-topic items to get votes and don't do too much about it...

What do you think of the fact that the statement of pension age is gone already, because Wilders want to be in the government?
I think this once again proves the party is not entirely trustworthy (not that all political parties are, but some more than others :P)

And how long will the coalition last? Question number 2 :P

haha! Good questions!

Answer to question number one: Wilders will give anything to finally rule.. he has no concrete plans to arrive at his goals anyway. So giving those up is not a big step for him. He knows he will lose voters by his moves.. but some of the people who voted for him say they understand his reasons.. Although I doubt it. If Wilders wouldn't have given up his statements.. he wouldn't have been able to get a place in the government. That would mean that he would lose all his voters.. and a lot more credibility. He had to choose between two equal hard options. We'll wait and see..

Answer to question number two ;-): I even wonder IF they will be able to get a stable coalition.. I really doubt it. And if they succeed.. I guess it will not last until october/december.. (Prinsjesdag etc. will cause a lot more arguments etc.)
