Holiday Jobs

Most of us have to work during a break (as long as you are in school/university...;-)) so now I’m wondering what you have been doing then. Speaking for myself, I have been working in a supermarket at the checkout, as a bin man and earlier on also as an electrician. So what about you?

Which job provides you ‘good money’ in your country? For me it was definitely the bin man… (I'm still talking about holiday jobs by the way...haha) I got about 25% more money than working at the checkout.

Is it easy to get a holiday job in your country? In my area it is quite easy I suppose, not that crowded and also not that many young people who're looking for work during a break.

here it sucks to get a job (maybe just this region... I can't speak for the rest of the country). Luckily I don't need to find a holiday job! Ha! Since I work for the Dutch postal services during my weekends always.. which means I can work extra days during my holidays anyway. :) And it pays quite well :D

For us it's also different if you're living in a city - but in the countryside there are quite a lot of different opportunities, especially if you are not so picky.

You are still working during weekends? So just on Saturday I suppose? Or Sunday as well?

In Leiden it's also not very easy to find a holiday job, so I mostly try it at my hometown, which is also not that easy because of all the schoolgoing people there that also want to have a holiday job :P. Sometimes with a bit of luck I can help my parents with their administration, so tht I don't have to be put on witinglists for work :P

but well, hard to say, i am searching also for a holiday job, maybe i work again at the bank, like last year. But here it is not that easy to get holiday jobs, not so many are available. I think it is a problem in whole austria...

I got a holiday job! :D A friend dragged me to her work, where they still need people for the holidays, so no problems with waiting lists :P
Now I have to work at an animal shelter :P. Quite nice work, because most of the pets are quite cute :P

Not yet, but I already sent some applications... I hope I don't have to wait too long before I get an answer. :)

I'm working in a distribution centre of an outdoor sporting goods store. I've started working there when I first started my previous study. Now that I'm finishing my current study almost eight years later, I still do.

I used to work every Saturday and most of the days in the holiday. Unfortunately they've stopped working on Saturdays and because I'm working on graduating on weekdays I can't work as often as I would want. However the work there can be quite boring and sometimes fun. Last time working there I was helping out on preparing a new building and I was driving around of forklift trucks and reach trucks all day long. There is probably a little boy in here that likes to play with those machines :D.

The payment used to be good, until I hit 23 years, from there on you are no longer in the minimum youth payment scale. My salary was always 2 years above my age but from 23 the salary didn't raise anymore.

As for summer jobs, I'm going to spend my time on looking for a full time job rather than a summer job since I'm hopefully done with my study by then.
