'Must See' movies

Of the numerous movies out there, there's quite a list of movies that are expected to be seen. What is a must-see for you of which you think everyone should've seen it or are there also films you haven't seen but people expect you to have seen it?

This list of course changes per person, but films I'm 'accused' of not having seen are for example Forest Gump, Sound of Music, Schindlers List (and quite some other movies), while those people for example haven't seen even one of the Star Wars movies or old James Bond movies. So everyone has a different view on what's 'classic' and must be seen

So what do you think of topics like this? Does everyone really have to see certain movies, or does it remain a personal choice? ;)

I think which movies one sees should always be a personal choice, but I will not refuse to watch a movie just because it is a "must see." I base my decisions on the theme of the movie and who the actors are. I've had friends talk me into seeing things which I didn't think I would like, but ended up loving. That was the way it was with the first Harry Potter movie. At the time, I had not read the books, and I didn't want to see it. Finally, a friend said, "Let's do it," so I went. I loved that movie, I loved the story, I even cried at the end. I started reading the books that day, and found that I loved them. The rest of the movies have been okay, but after reading the books, I find them a bit disappointing.

I was not going to see "Avatar" because I didn't think I would enjoy it, but several people I knew kept saying, "You really should see this movie. You will love it." Because these people knew me very well, I trusted them and saw the movie. I did enjoy it. The story was simple and sweet, and the movie was a visual work of art. It was stunning. I'm glad I saw it, but it is not something I would watch again because it would not hold my interest a second time.

Puh, I don't have a list, but there are for sure movies I would say it is a must see!:P Just to name a few: Pulp Fiction, Nightmare before Christmas, Blue Velvet, Taxi Driver, Citizen Kane, Trainspotting, The Full Monty and many more.
Poeple told me, "Dirty Dancing" is a must see... I never saw it, and I don't think I will ever watch it, because I know won't like it. I think too that this should be a personal choice.

On my list there would be (don't pay attention to the order):

I am Sam
Duell - Enemy at the Gates
Indiana Jones
Inception
Into the Wild
Forrest Gump
Shooter
Lord of the Rings
Schindler's List
Life Is Beautiful (Italian: La vita è bella)

I think, in my humble opinion, that there are some movies we need to have seen simply because of its cultural importance. There are just a few movies out there but you should have seen for example 'Schindler's List'... it's one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen in my life and belongs to our heritage as Europeans. If you have the time to watch it you really should. Be prepared that it's on a whole different level than Star Wars or James Bond (yes, I've also watched it...).
