Cult Movies

Do you know any good cult movies (they're supposed to be all good but you know, the times have changed).

I quite liked 'Back to the Future' which I just watched like one year ago. It is a trilogy, by the way.

Has anyone seen 'Breakfast Club'? I had to watch this movie due to a friend's recommendation but I didn't quite like it (probably because I watched it in English?^^).

What for cult movies can you recommend? (Please don't ask me how I define cult movies... I simply counted the mentioned movies to it... hehe)

I think cult movies are quite subjective!^^ For me, one cult film would be definetly "Pulp Fiction". "The Life of Brian" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" are also cult in my opinion. Well, I like also trashy movies, which can be counted as cult. I think, that the movies by the Cohen Brothers are also quite popular and culty.

Hm... I never heard about Breakfast Club.

I never really know when a movie is a cult movie, always mistake them for B-movies :P, so to check a bit, I roamed at several sites reading multiple lists with 'cult movies' Didn't know that Back to the Future was a cult movie, if it is, then it's in my list too ;). I saw some of the older Bond films also in one of the lists, so I have to mention those too ;), sort of grew up with those movies, guess I've seen 16/16 of the Connery-Moore-Dalton-Lazenby films :P

@Nike
heh, B-Movies can be cult movies! Because they are trashy and so bad, that they're funny again! Well, that's what I've read!xD

And oh my... how could I forget about Donnie Darko! One of my favourite movies! I will never ever forget the Rabbit and the conversation about the smurfs...

I just watched Donnie Darko and I must say that I wasn't really impressed... it could be cult but that's definitely not my type of movie. ;)

Though I have to admit that there are some pretty good scenes...

Donnie Darko is a really strange movie. It has such a nice "wtf-effect"`xD But well, if it is not the type of movie which you like, of course you think it is not that good!^^

I've just watched 'An Education' and it was great. Thank you! I think we even have '17 again' somwhere lying around in my brother's room. I have even watched 'Pride and Prejudice' because my hostfamily in New Zealand kind of forced me to (we were watching dvd for like 4 hours). ;)

So anyway, this list sounds quite good but I have no idea where I can get the Thai movies from... I guess my local library doesn't have such films. :)

Yes, I hope so. ;)

Has anyone seen 'Dead Poets Society'? A movie which my former German teacher recommended to us and it was an excellent movie. That might be interesting for the one or other here! I'd love to talk about your thougts to it afterwards. I think we can count 'Dead Poets Society' as a cult movie, can't we? :D

I know the movie! Although we watched it in a german class, and the teacher was an idiot (sorry!)... he didn't showed us one of the important scenes (and yes, I think it was an important scene for the movie!>_>''), because he thought it is not really important....

You forgot to add which scene you're talking about... that'd be rather interesting. ;) Do you still remember?

@Silvio
Of course I remember the scene, and I didn't forget to add it. I didn't wanted to write it here, because there may be people who didn't saw it yet. But ok...

SPOILER WARNING! (so don't read if you want to see the movie!:P)

Well, he didn't show us the most scenes with Neil. The whole theater thing, that his father wanted to send him to military academy and his suicide... But he showed us everything else... He just told us: You just have to know, Neil comitted suicide. The whole class was like: wtf?O_O he died? Why? No! What the ... is not important about those scenes?

In our cult movies list I wanted to add 'Schindler's List' and 'Great Escape'. Two of my favourite movies about the world wars... they really make you think about the past and even might to motivate the one or another to read or watch something more about it.

As a book and movie I can recommend also 'Life Is Beautiful' (original title: La vita è bella) by Roberto Benigni.

These are old movies but really insightful and a lot people talk about these even nowadays... simply cult movies? :P

Hm... what about Citizen Kane? Did someone watched it? I loved it! Especially because you will now and then remember it. Some scenes are really famous, so that in some series (like the Simpsons) you'll see similar scenes.

I'll just say: Rosebud!
